about

The first tune, ‘The Hermit’, is by Colin Blakey. The tune came to him when he was in the Hermit’s Cell on Iona. The second tune, ‘Muiñeira das Zocas’, is traditional Galician. ‘Zocas’ are ‘clogs’.
The 'strings' sound is made by bowing the strings on an electric guitar with a large steel tube. The guitar is played through copious amounts of reverb and delay effects. The idea for this way of playing came from Daevid Allen of Gong, who originally saw Syd Barrett of The Pink Floyd doing this live, using a Zippo lighter.
